When is the best time to fish?

This is the most frequent question we are asked, and the most difficult one for us to answer without sounding evasive.

Many factors must be considered when choosing the "BEST" time to plan your group fishing trip.

I think that extra effort and an experienced captain can and must produce under all conditions. A big factor in my business is to be consistent in catching fish every day. We believe in going out before daybreak, and staying out til dark is a big factor in being consistent every day - all season long.

After all, there are days when anyone can catch fish and also days when only the best and most experienced captains will be able to insure your success.

I will be happy to furnish references, customers that have fished with us this past year for any time period you are considering. The following month to month breakdown is designed to assist you with choosing the best fishing time according to your groups preferences. You have our assurance that we will do our utmost to provide your groups best fishing choice a successful and enjoyable experience

April
Beginning approximately April 25, I will be starting my season at Winthrop Harbor, IL with good coho action expected. We use ultralight tackle to make this great Spring fishing even more fun for you, as fewer large fish can be expected during the Spring, but great fun and great eating!
May
I do expect May to product the fastest fishing of the year. These catches are made up of Coho Salmon and Steelhead with an occasional Brown Trout, Lake Trout or Chinook Salmon to be expected. We should experience nearly a 100% success rate here on "limit catches" again. Book early as this will fill fast!
June
I expect to return to Port Washington by June 15th. You should expect a continuation of great Coho and Steelhead action throughout June. Catches of 15 to 30 fish per trip were not uncommon with the longer 8 hour charter, proving to be by far the most successfull. The King Salmon can be expected towards the later part of the month.
July
This is one of the best times of the season for a good mixed bag - Trout and Salmon. Included are the occasional trophy size steelhead, Brown Trout, Lake Trout or Chinook Salmon. The 2002 season provided us with more trophy size Chinook Salmon.
August
Early this month is very similar to the end of July with a mixed bag catch. However, we concentrate primarily on Chinook Salmon and Steelhead.Althought the Chinook will reach it's maximum size by the end of August, it requires both luck and patience to catch these trophies.
September
This is our most interesting fishing month. We may be fishing in or around the harbor for a large Brown or Trophy Chinook of fishing offshore for a mixed bag of Steelhead or 2-3 year old Salmon.
October
Same old thing, more fishing, mixed with a little hunting (I deserve it!). Hope to see you next year!!
